Last Wednesday, June 30th 2010 (also happened to by my due date) I woke up at 1:30 a.m. with contractions. I knew these were the start of something. I had been having braxton hicks on and off for a few weeks and these were more regular, on average about 7 min. apart lasting on average 30 sec. long. I stared timing them and concentrating on my breathing until 7 a.m. When Lee woke up I told him what was happening and he was ready to go! I told him it would still be a while and to go to work. At 9 a.m. my Mom, sister Jennie and sister-in-law Cynthia and her kids came over and we all went swimming for about an 1 1/2 hours. I made circles around the pool while they prepped me for signs to look for. I spent the rest of the day going through some serious pains, but the contractions kept spacing out. It was actually really weird and very frustrating. I knew if I went to the hospital, they would just send my home and I did not want to do that! I sat in a warm bath for about an hour, walked around my house but it was all still the same, no progression. Lee wanted to go to my Mom's house to walk on the treadmill and to pass the time. So we packed the car with all our hospital gear (just in case) and headed to my parents. When we arrived my mom told me to get on the treadmill instead of Lee to help the contractions get closer. I walked for about 30 mins. all the while contracting every 4-5 min. now and lasting about 45 secs. ""It was now time! I started to cry because of fear. When we arrived at Mountain View Hospital it was 10 o'clock p.m. They hooked me up to the monitors and we waited. The nurse came in about 15 min. later and said they were going to keep me because my contractions were now 3 min. apart. She checked me and I was at a 4 and 80% effaced.
EPIDURAL TIME BABY!!! Where do I sign??
My family soon arrived and the waiting game continued. To help pass the time, we watched my favorite, "Burt the Conqueror" (so funny) and I told Lee to take some pictures. Here's what he got.
After 28 hours of labor and no sleep, it was time to start pushing. I pushed for what seemed like forever, but was really only about 20-30 minutes. Dr. Swainston arrived and I pushed some more and then I heard my Mom and Lee say, "There He is!" I tried to see but I couldn't see over my belly. On Thursday, July 1st, 2010, William Owen Flick was born at 5:24 a.m. weighing in at 6 lbs. 6 oz. and 20 in. long. Lee cut the cord and then I heard William cry. I immediately lost it and started crying too. I hadn't even see him yet but I knew I loved him so much. (Holy Cow..... I'm crying now just re-living it.) Dr. Swainston then held him up for us all to see. It was love at first sight!William was then place on my chest for a little clean up. I couldn't believe it, my little boy was here.
It's not that kind of a party people! Ha ha ha..........
Meeting Daddy for the first time. I have fallen in love with Lee more this week than I ever thought possible. He was always right there by my side through this whole process to take care of me and now I see the protective dad character coming out of him. He is so great to William and I. "We love you Dad."
