I've known for a week now that I was going to do this today, and I have been dreading every minute leading up to it. The last two days he has fallen asleep in the car without his binkie for naps and has done pretty good. Now we just have to get through tonight. So far, we're not doing to bad.
So this afternoon, I put Williams last three binkies in a container. I have an old mailbox in my front room that I use as decor and I thought that would be a good way to say goodbye to them. I gave the container to William and we walked over to the mailbox, he put the container inside and I closed the box. That made him mad and I quickly scooped him up and we walked to the timer. I let him push the buttons to make it fun for him. We set it for 3 minutes, just enough time for me to send William outside and to take the binkies from the mailbox. To replace the binkies I set a bag of candies that he loves inside. After the timer went off, William came running inside to investigate where the sound was coming from. I said to him, "Lets go look in the mailbox" and he ran to it. He opened it up and found the candy. He was pretty excited about that and immediately demanded a sucker from his loot.
We put the little guy down for bed at 8:30pm tonight, and as of right now, (9:16pm) he is lightly whining in his crib. He is breaking our hearts but we have to be strong. It's really hard to listen to him be so sad. After all, all he knows is going to bed with a binkie and now I'm a big mean Mom who took it away. :( Be strong Sheree, be STRONG!
UPDATE: 9:30pm -He is asleep. "Good job, big guy! Mommy is so proud of you."

You're stronger than me - we're still nap/bed time bink... and it's scream city otherwise. I figure once I'm home we'll work at it more. I want them gone by 2.
Each night and nap has gotten better and better. Tonight he went to sleep without a peep. YAY!! :)
Thats such a great idea! Some one tell you about that or you're on the ball like that?! I would have never thought of something like that, thankfully all I had to take away was their bottles...that was hard enough! Needless to say Evan was 3..lol. Good for you guys!
