2 weeks ago, my Doctor informed me that I was measuring small, 25cm at 30 weeks. I didn't seem to think there was anything wrong and since I felt the same size now as I did at this time with William, I felt it was unnecessary. After hearing others opinions, Lee and I decided to just do the ultrasound to make sure that "she" is growing alright. The night before I started to get nervous -I hate that feeling, especially when it deals with my children!
So Monday morning, I went in to get the ultrasound. Baby was sleeping and was camera shy by blocking her face with her hand, but we got to see her cute feet with all 5 toes, and confirmed once again that YES, she is a girl. The ultrasound tech told me that she looked good but was measuring a week late (3lbs. 4oz) and that my fluid was low. Her first reading was an 8. Not good. If it's a 4, they take your baby! She tried to wake up the baby by pushing my stomach, (OUCH! with low fluid, that hurts) and she got my fluid to a 9. Better, but still not good. She tried one last time, but it looks like Little Miss is stubborn like her brother can be. My last fluid reading was a 9.98. They like to see your fluid at 10-20. The tech seemed to think that it could be a mis-reading due to the babys position and not being able to get her to move. That seemed to make me feel a little better.
I saw my Doctor next, and he took my measurment. 26cm at 32 weeks. We then talked about what could be causiong me to be so small. He said, I could be one of those girls who just make small babies. I told him that my son was born 6lbs. 6oz and was perfectly healthy. So that is a possibility. Or, it could be because I am indeed low on fluid and she is not growing as fast due to that. We are hoping it's the first possibility, but I go back in on the 25th for another ultrasound.
I still feel like everything is going to be okay, but I can't help but feel like a protective Mother Hen. Her kicks and jabs have always been pretty sharp and painful, which makes me think that I am low on fluid, and when I am up and moving around I start to hurt. So, are you ready for this? I have put myself on bed rest. WHAT WOMEN DOES THAT? This one-that's who! Not strick bed rest, just during the day when I can, I lie on my left side and I have also doubled my water/liquid intake. So far today, I am at 70.7 oz and peeing every 15 seconds.
You may think I am crazy, but we are hoping these pre-cautions bring us good news in 2 weeks.
"We are anxious to meet you Baby Girl, but you need to cook A LOT LONGER, so we'll wait. We hope you do too!!"
